Graph of the Troops and Casualties
This graph shows the number of casualties and troops present for both the Union and the Confederacy at the battle of Antietam. The Union suffered 12,400 casualties and the Confederacy suffered 10,300 casualties. There were 56,000 Union troops and 37,400 Confederate troops present at the battle. As you can see by the graph the Union suffered more casualties than the Confederacy. However, the Union had more troops present at the battle, so they had more soldiers to fight and could afford to lose more people. This advantage allowed the Union to defeat the Confederates at the Battle of Antietam.
